Cellar Tours return!

To add your name to the waiting list, email us.
Thank you for your interest!
Arched roof cellars, unique to the Flint Hills, have piqued an interest that continues today, and
new routes this year have been designed by local guides to include additional points of interest.
New: Box lunches available prior to tour, by reservation

Stone Arched Cellar Tours were first offered by The Volland Store in the Spring of 2016 as a response to the Store’s art exhibit “The Spirit of Place: Rooted in the Flint Hills.” by Tom Parish. Tours of arched cellars in Wabaunsee County in the Spring of 2016 quickly sold out, and additional tours were added in the Fall. Eight tours were recently announced for March and April 2017 and they too sold out quickly. We are keeping a waiting list, and if demand is sufficient, we will add additional tours this Spring. We don’t want anyone to miss them!
We are fortunate to have two guides, Rob Meseke and Jamie Schultz, whose knowledge of local history comes to them from previous generations of their families. An intimate knowledge of the surrounding landscape enables them to select additional stops that will enrich your experience. March tours will feature a westerly route, while April tours will explore other new locations around Volland and Alma. All tours will begin and end at The Volland Store.
New this year: as a convenience for tour participants, box lunches will be available prior to the tour, by reservation. Seating in the blacksmith shop – or in lovely spring weather , on picnic tables outside.
Tours start at 1:00pm – Participants will be bussed to the tour stops. The tour will last around four hours, and we will have you back to your vehicle by approximately 5 pm.
Wear good walking shoes and be prepared for uneven ground. Dress appropriately for the weather. Please watch our Facebook page or thevollandstore.com for weather cancellations and updates.
We look forward to seeing you!
