Marci and her family are new to the Volland area. In the summer of 2017, her husband Christopher and son Emmett purchased the old Thowe place: a homestead settled in the 1870’s that has seen many changes, joy, and heartbreak over the decades. The limestone structures remain sturdy and strong ready for their family to call home.
A native Kansan, Marci grew up on a farm southwest of Lawrence. She attended Kansas State University and holds bachelor’s degrees in life science and horticulture and a master’s in Agriculture. For the past 20 years she has lived in Manhattan, Kansas, which is a great location to experience the Flint Hills. Marci is now thrilled to be in the heart of it all and engage with the prairie every day.
Marci is fascinated by the history the area has preserved and appreciates the means in which Wabaunsee County keeps history relevant for all ages and interests. This cultivation inspires her narrative history writing project regarding ethnographic studies and food ways of Kansas community dinners.
Marci’s role at The Store includes assisting patrons, coordinating events and volunteers.
