Donald Judd, an internationally known artist from New York City, relocated to the farthest reaches of Texas to find a space big enough to explore some of his ideas about art. The high desert landscape near the little town of Marfa provided the openness and remoteness he needed to develop those concepts. The buildings he collected in Marfa and the land surrounding are sculpture sites that house the visible collections of those ideas.
Judd invited other artists to come to Marfa, where they too could have a place to exhibit their work. People now come from all over the world to experience that unique legacy.
Suzie Aron and David Dowell recently traveled to Marfa, Texas, and photographed the collections there. Aron and photographer Kenny Johnson have curated an exhibit that allows viewers to share in the benefits of Judd’s exquisite work and entrepreneurial spirt.
Flint Hills Collects
If you too are a collector of something (tools, quilts, arrowheads, spurs, salt and pepper shakers), the curators invite you to bring your collections to the Opening Reception, February 12, 12-5 pm, and have them photographed with you, the collector.
The photos will be become part of the MARFA exhibit for others to see and experience.
We want to see what you collect.
