Rex Hobart and The Misery Boys
Experience the rich tradition of country music’s heartache anthems with a toe-tappin’ rhythm that’ll have you singing along!

Guitarist and lead singer Scott "Rex" Hobart, bassist Tilden “Blackjack” Snow, guitarist Brendan “J.B. Morris” Moreland, drummer Mike “T.C. Dobbs” Dolembo, and pedal-steel player Nate “Solomon” Hofer. This group of tight-knit friends and musicians started playing music together almost thirty years ago. Along the way, they started telling stories with their original songs. In a 2015 interview, Rex described their group as " ....just a country band playing what, for our age, is the golden era of country music — the 1960s-70s sound ....Although I do think we've pushed the envelope a little....in a couple of places." It is now ten years later, and we will see how they are pushing the envelope today, under the late summer sun at The Ruin!
Mosey into the Volland Gallery to view work from 2025 Volland Exhibiting Artist, Hofer will open a solo show on September 13th, 2025! Hofer will be exhibiting photographs that document decommissioned missile silo sites, some of which are in Kansas. He recorded his pedal steel guitar inside one of the hollow silos and will perform this music live at his opening on September 13. The recorded version will remain available for listening throughout the exhibit.
