The Nature Conservancy hosts an annual Global Photo Contest aimed at collecting, sharing and celebrating photography that highlights nature. In 2023 TNC received nearly 200,0000 submissions from 191 countries and 80,000 photographers who were asked to submit photos in one of 12 categories.

In 2023, Kansas was one of just three states to offer a statewide photo contest alongside TNC’s annual global competition.

Three jurors, Meleda Lowry, Jim Richardson, and Douglas Spale, all photographers working in Kansas and beyond, pored over 1,389 submissions from 500 Kansas photographers, making difficult decisions to select the winning photographs. At Volland, those winning photographs, plus a handful of other noteworthy works, will be exhibited on the gallery walls.  Additional projected images of Kansas photographers will complete the exhibit, showcasing the skill of the photographers and the beauty of Kansas.

Volland is pleased to share the winning photos from Kansas, plus some other notable works that showcase Kansas’ nature, wildlife, and people.

Join us on June 15th to celebrate the work of these distinguished photographers. The afternoon will include remarks by juror and National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson.

Further discussion of the photos and how they relate to the work of The Nature Conservancy in Kansas will be offered by Ben Postlethwait, State Director of The Nature Conservancy in Kansas; Brian Obermeyer, Director of Land Protection and Stewardship; Heidi Mehl, Director of Kansas Water and Agriculture Programs; and Tony Capizzo, Flint Hills Initiative Manager.

Light refreshments will be served. Free admission. Seating is limited, and reservations are appreciated.
