A new theater project by Beth Wynstra, Mary Pinard, and You!
Phase 1: Now – December 15, 2023
Phase 2: February – June, 2024
Phase 3: Performance Week: June 22 – 29, 2024
Volland is thrilled to host another project from Babson College colleagues Beth Wynstra and Mary Pinard. Writing Wabaunsee County shares many traits with 2022’s Heart/Roots: Wabaunsee County production, but will rely on local writers to pen the script this time. There are several different ways you can get involved.
The hope for this project is to present an original play written and performed by Wabaunsee Countians. All residents, of all ages and experience levels, are invited to submit writing samples and audition for acting spots!
Phase 1 – Collect Writing Samples
If you are interested in being a playwright for this new theatre production, please submit two writing samples to Beth (bwynstra@babson.edu) and Mary (pinard@babson.edu) by December 15th, 2023.
Instructions from Beth and Mary: Send a 2-page writing sample (typed, double-spaced): it can be a very short play, a scene between 2 characters, a monologue, or a short story that portrays or depicts a vivid scene from daily life somewhere in Wabaunsee County. Attach a cover letter (typed, single-spaced, no more than 1 page) that: 1) introduces you and your experience(s) as a writer, and 2) explains your writing process and intention(s) in the creation of your sample.
Phase 2 – Selections, Auditions, and Meetings
On February 1st, 2024 the writers will be notified. Around that time expect a call for actor auditions. They will take place at Volland on March 15th and 16th with Beth and Mary. Actors will be notified on March 17th of the two’s decision. On March 15th, Beth and Mary will announce the “ingredients” that will serve as prompts to the writers at a dinner gathering.
Throughout the rest of March and through June, Mary will conduct writing sessions, and Beth acting sessions, via Zoom.
Phase 3 – The Final Script, Rehearsals, and Performances
The days between June 22nd -29th will be a fast-paced, group effort to prepare for the performances. Throughout the week, writers will meet with Mary to hone their script, trade ideas, and present their work to the actors, who will bring the words to life with Beth’s help.
The writers and actors will work in tandem towards the finished work. Two performances of the play are set, one on June 28th and another on June 29th. Information on tickets will come later!
