Can you help plan our wedding? Volland is a long way from town. What about rentals, flowers, a caterer?
The Volland Store is pleased to partner with an excellent wedding planner who has had experience organizing weddings at Volland: Hitched Planning+Floral. They are based in Kansas City and coordinate weddings across Kansas. They know where to find the rentals you want, and they can do beautiful flowers. They are competent and professional, and they love what they do.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, a deposit is required to hold the space and is due with the signed contract. The amount required is 50% of the total rental fee and is nonrefundable.
A Cleaning and Damage deposit of $200 is due 15 days prior to the event. This deposit will be refunded after the event provided extensive cleaning is not required and there are no damages to the property.
In the case of events with bar service or that serve alcoholic drinks or cereal malt beverages, an additional Cleaning and Damage deposit of $250 is due 15 days prior to the event.
When can we set up for our event?
The wedding rental begins Friday morning and ends at the end of day Sunday. Plan for your tent to be set up the day before (Thursday). If you choose to decorate in the tent earlier than the day of the wedding we are not responsible for damaged or missing decorations.
Can we bring in our own food?
Yes, you are welcome to bring in your own food or hire your own caterer. Please bring your food ready to serve. The catering kitchen includes a range, but is not equipped for preparing a meal. (List of caterers available)
Can we bring in our own wedding cake?
Yes. Staff does not set up or move wedding cakes.
May we provide our own alcohol?
A liquor license is not required by law when alcohol is served (not sold) at a private party that is held on private property. However, due to liability concerns, The Volland Store requires one of the following when you provide your own alcohol:
- Hire a caterer who has a liquor license and a liquor liability policy. Please ask the caterer to name The Volland Store as an additional insured.
- Hire a licensed bartender who will provide The Volland Store with a certificate of insurance naming The Volland Store as an additional insured.
- If the caterer or the bartender does not have a liquor liability policy, please purchase a one-time event coverage policy and provide The Volland Store with a certificate of insurance naming The Volland Store as an additional insured fifteen days in advance of the wedding date.
Vehicles may be parked at the site overnight if guests wish to take another ride home, but must be retrieved no later than 2 pm on the day following the wedding.
Are candles allowed?
Yes. They must be completely enclosed in a container including the wick, flame, and bottom of candle. Containers need to be large enough to contain the candle and melting wax. No taper candles are allowed.
Are there any decorations you do not allow?
No birdseed, rice, or sparklers. No bubbles inside, but they may be used outside.
Are there bathroom facilities for outdoor events?
There are two bathrooms on the Gallery level, one of which is ADA-compliant, and there are two bathrooms on the Lower Level. If you feel you need more, you may wish to contact Cat Cans or Frankfort Porta Potty Inc.
What about parking?
The Meadow accommodates plenty of parking for your guests. It is a short walk and the ground is uneven in places. However, an ADA-compliant drop-off point is available.
Is cell service available?
Cell service is sometimes unreliable here, depending on the carrier. It can often be remedied by driving to a higher hill close by.
What happens if it rains?
We advise that all outdoor events have a backup plan in the event of rain. We do not refund money on events cancelled due to weather.
If I have my wedding ceremony at The Volland Store, may we have a rehearsal? Is there an extra fee for it?
All venues are available to you Friday through Sunday and are included in the wedding fee.
Do you require security?
Bride must designate a “responsible person” whose name must be included with the reservation. It is the responsibility of this person to see that individuals not included in your group are barred from admission. This person should be present at the activity and see that the walk-through is completed after the event. This includes being certain everyone is out of the building, lights are turned off and all doors are closed and locked.
